What is it and how does a textile industry certification work?

Confidence in Textiles, also known as OEKO-TEX®, is a registered trademark owned by the International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile Ecology, which is a spontaneous association of various research institutes and laboratories around the world.

OEKO TEX Certification for Pratrivero

The certification request is voluntary and open to anyone who produces textile products; to obtain such certifications, it is necessary to submit the products to numerous tests conducted by independent institutes partnered with OEKO-TEX®, in order to check for the presence of any harmful substances, such as:

  1. Substances prohibited by law.
  2. Substances whose use is regulated by law.
  3. Chemical substances known to be harmful to health (although not yet regulated by law).
  4. Parameters for health protection.

If the products successfully pass the tests, the Certification will be issued, the type of which obviously varies based on the nature of the product!

What is the Oeko-tex standard 100 certification?

If a product is certified, you can be sure that every single element has been subjected to rigorous tests to detect the presence of harmful substances. Pratrivero, having obtained the OEKO-TEX® certification, ensures its products comply with such standards, offering safe and reliable fabrics.

The materials are carefully tested according to a wide spectrum of criteria. During such checks, various substances, both regulated and not regulated, that could pose a potential risk to human health, are considered.

In many circumstances, the threshold values for STANDARD 100 significantly exceed national and international requirements. The criteria catalog is constantly updated, at least once a year, integrating new scientific findings or adjusting to new regulatory requirements.

“The OEKO-TEX® certified non-woven fabrics of Pratrivero are ideal for multiple uses. They guarantee the health of the customers as well as the quality of the raw materials used.”

Product classes

The controls of toxic substances according to OEKO-TEX® standards are designed considering the intended use of fabrics and materials. The greater the degree of contact of a product with the skin and the higher the skin sensitivity, the more stringent the human-ecological requirements become.

The product classes are divided as follows:

  • Product category I: includes items intended for infants and toddlers up to 3 years old (underwear, rompers, clothing, sheets, sponges, etc.)
  • Product category II: includes items used in direct contact with the skin, such as underwear, bed linen, t-shirts, socks, etc.
  • Product category III: concerns products not in direct contact with the skin, such as jackets, coats, etc.
  • Product category IV: encompasses decorative/furnishing materials, such as curtains, tablecloths, upholstery fabrics, etc.

The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 category 1 certification for Pratrivero’s non-woven fabric highlights the constant commitment to strictly comply with these regulations, thus ensuring an excellent end result in terms of safety and quality.
